Drunk in Public Charge in Fairfax City Dismissed

July 2020

Client was arrested for drunk in public in Fairfax City after drinking too much at a restaurant with friends.  As it happens sometimes, the client did not recall much of the evening.  Client was a college graduate and doing very well otherwise.  We instructed our client to take an alcohol awareness class and perform community service.  We showed the prosecutor the work our client put into addressing the alcohol consumed so to make sure everyone was comfortable that there were no lingering alcohol addiction issues.  Rather, that this was simply a one-time incident of too much fun.  In addition, the community service done helped show remorse and it showed the client was willing to take the time out of their day to help others through work in a non-profit organization.  After these issues were made clear, the charge was dismissed.  We see many drunk in public cases where our clients have no prior criminal history but have a wild night with friends that gets out of hand.  It is important to hit these cases head-on so you don't end up with a criminal conviction for one mistake.  To have one day or night have a hand in defining the future is not being fair to yourself.
