Reckless Driving by Speed Reduced to Improper Driving in Loudoun County
March 2026
Client was driving on Route 28 in Loudoun County on Christmas Eve to work overtime hours. They were a little late to work and were rushing. Unfortunately they did not realize they passed a Loudoun County Sheriff's police cruiser also driving on Route 28. Using moving Radar the police officer clocked our client at 86 mph in a 55 mph zone. The client was cited for reckless driving due to the speed.
Client took the 8-hr defensive driving course and 4-hr reckless driving course for mitigation for the court. Given that they were stopped on Christmas Eve simply trying to get some extra overtime hours and had taken the two classes the reckless driving charge was reduced to improper driving with a fine. This avoided the original misdemeanor charge and resulted in a conviction for a traffic infraction instead. Improper Driving is 3 points on the DMV driving record and will fall off the VA DMV record after 3 years.
