Prince William County Speeding Charge Dismissed
September 2023
Client was driving with friends to Luray Caverns and got stopped for driving 82/65 on I-66 in the Prince William County area. The Virginia State Trooper issued a summons for speeding and client was released from the stop to continue on their way.
The issue in this case was that the client was a Volunteer Firefighter out of Maryland and needs a clean driving record. The ability to operate a firetruck is crucial to the job and anything that could affect insurance could jeopardize that.
We appeared in Court on our client's behalf and went over the case and it's complications to our client with the Prosecutor. Our client had a clean driving record and a letter of recommendation from the Fire Department as they had been an admirable employee. The prosecutor agreed to "traffic school" which means that once our client takes a defensive driving course and pays the court costs the charge would be dismissed. Needless to say our client completed everything and the charge was indeed dismissed. Hiring a traffic lawyer that handles cases in the locality in which the ticket was issued is very important. Judges and Prosecutors in Prince William County will sometimes agrees to allow people to get their tickets dismissed if they take a defensive driving course and pay their costs. This can be made available in cases where the person has a clean driving record and the driving was not egregious. While this is not available in every case sometimes we can convince a prosecutor or Judge to do so in a case they normally would not. Everything in court is a case by cases basis and depends on heavily on preparation!
