Town of Occoquan Speeding Reduced to Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention
September 2023
Client was stopped on the Occoquan bridge in Prince William County for speeding at 70mph in the 40mph zone. The bridge is a popular area for the issuance of traffic tickets due to the steep drop-off in the speed limit. In this case the client had recently received some disconcerting news and was not paying attention to his speed. But they had a perfect driving record.
To prepare for their case we recommended the client take a driver improvement course and provide us with a copy of their perfect driving record. We explained to the Occoquan Town Attorney that this ticket was an aberration and that our client had received some bad news just earlier in the way. Our client had also taken the defensive driving course we recommended.
We reached an agreement with the Town Attorney and the speeding charge was reduced to Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention under the Occoquan Town Code with a fine. Due to the nature of the reduction nothing will appear on their driving record from this case. This was the right result because not every speeding case is a result of simply joyriding. Sometimes life shows up and throws a curveball but our client dealt with it head-on.
